But University officials say hazing is a factor. Four students were expelled from school, and another 30 were dismissed from the band, school President James Ammons wrote a letter to the Board of Trustees Thursday.
Christopher Chestnut, a lawyer for the family, repeat champion Friday night in an interview with CNN Headline News's Vinnie Politan family intention to sue the school. He said that he hoped the lawsuit–including experts who would carry on hazing as a part of–can help the University and applying the band revamped anti-hazing policies and practices.
"Large agencies, FAMU was but it has problems, and there is a culture of hazing in the band," Chestnut said. "That's why it intends to file a lawsuit, because we want to help them heal this issue so that no one else who lost their lives, such as Robert Champion."
